Large items needed:
- ***URGENT need*** 3 phase generator for our well. We have been notified by Southern California Edison to expect more frequent power shutoffs of longer duration during our year round fire season during windy conditions and red flag alerts. Since we are on a well, the sanctuary animals lose access to fresh water during a power shutoff. Without electricity, we can’t pump water to fill their troughs and buckets and must depend on filling small buckets from a storage tank and carrying those buckets to each enclosure. This is extremely labor intensive and eventually the storage tank water will be depleted and need to refilled. In order to keep our well operating and water flowing during a power shut off, we need to install a 230 volt 3 phase 12 KVA generator. Unfortunately this is not an inexpensive generator that can be purchased at Harbor Freight, Home Depot, or Lowes. A 3 phase generator must be purchased industrially. The costs starts close to $6K and goes up from there. We are looking for a very generous supporter to take the lead on a fundraiser for this.
- 1 ton pickup for hauling animals and supplies. Our current truck is a 2008 1/2 ton pickup with 270K miles. We urgently need an upgraded truck for hauling animals for emergency veterinary care as well as for sanctuary and community evacuations in our high fire risk area.
- Tractor for grading animal enclosures. We currently have multiple pens in need of grading multiple times per year as the base footing erodes away from the fence posts. Grading is also needed to prepare for the rainy season and prevent stalls and pens from flooding.
- Pig and goat fencing and materials for larger enclosures with predator proof enclosed areas for sleeping. The pigs and goats are all in temporary enclosures and need their own designated areas.
- Livestock trailer
- Squeeze chute for cattle veterinary and hoof care
